The Final School Tour and one Last Visit to the Rock Shop

The morning low was 31. The local weather predicted a low of 50, we were in the 40s when we went to bed last night. We are at the bottom of a small valley, with 200 ft hills on either side. We get all the cold night air. The water hose has been slushing up lately, so we open the grey tank in the evening and let the bathroom faucet lightly run. Does the trick.

Cold morning. Shakshuka for breakfast!

I walked down to the office and archives around 8:00 and worked on Smith Sherlock Company Store invoices. I digitized some invoices, but spent a lot of my time organizing files and making sure everything was in good order. This likely will be last work on this project this year. I spoke with Joe Ellis about coming back in the off season, maybe next March or April, to finish the project. In the meantime, I can see how easy (or difficult) it is to ocr the invoices and put the information into a database.

The buses arrived a little after 9:00 and we were off. As has been the case all week, we had four groups of kids in town plus a bus full up at the Carissa. We did our rotations, swapped kids and completed the tour. Done for the season!

The next to the last group through was unusual. We had the students, the teacher, and about 5 or 6 parents. A little much, but a couple of those parents decided they should be independently conducting demonstrations. I walked over and without word, herded the kids back. You would have to be an idiot not to understand the implied message. Of course, you'd have to be an idiot to peel kids off to satisfy your ego, so....

We spoke with Joe a bit afterwards and he informed us we were done. We will be in town for a few days next week and thought we would help taking down displays. They will do this slowly over the next two weeks, so we are free. Sweet.

We came home and ate lunch. Connie worked on her projects and I did a little reading.

At about 5:00 we went to the Rock Shop Inn for one last time. We were there for about an hour and Texas Dan showed. We visited for about an hour or so and he was off- he has been building a house and is down to the flooring and trim and wanted to get back to it.

We stayed on a bit and I ended up having a long conversation with a guy I have seen on and off all summer and with whom I'd only had brief conversations. I enjoyed our much longer talk and wish that we had had one like this earlier in the summer.

We returned to the trailer, ate a late dinner, and read for a bit.

The season is over and it seems to have gone by so fast.
