The Big "Halloween" Event and a Ghost Sighting?

Sherlock Hotel, lighted for the end of season "Halloween" event. Very spooky.

I walked down to the office/archives a little after 8 AM and worked on my ghost stories for a bit before our school group came in. They arrived around 9:30 and we we finished a little after 11:00. The kids were great, as they usually are. We had only one rotation through, so I only had to present my stories four times.

After the tour, I worked a bit, then went to the trailer for lunch. I worked on my stories until about 4:00, then went up to the Grubstake for a couple of glasses of wine- preparation, you understand. Then we returned to South Pass City about 5:00 PM and I began setting up the jail for my stories.

Folks began arriving around 6:00 but it wasn't until around 6:30 before I had people ready for stories. I told a few stories, some were repeats due to local interest, and spent a fair bit of time answering questions about the jail, South City hauntings, etc. I had a pretty good time with this.

One of the stories I created for the event, was based on the lives and deaths of two brothers. It was all factual, except for a little "supernatural" embellishment. I could see people get the chills at the end of the story. It wasn't scary, but the ending was powerful.

Things started winding down, so I wandered over to the Miner's Exchange Saloon to "spend" one of my drink tickets. Joe was reading tarot cards, Jesse was reading palms (and read mine), and Jonna was divining fortunes based on handwriting.

Gator had found a warm spot near a fire pit and probably had basked most of the evening.

I took a couple of photographs of the buildings with some lighting (see hotel above), but this one was interesting:

Smith Sherlock Company Store, with ghostly apparition. South Pass City State Historic Site, Wyoming.

Smith Sherlock Company Store, lit for the event, with possible sighting of Peter Sherlock, who lived and worked in the store until his death in 1947.

It seems like every one, staff and guests, had fun with event. The announcement had suggested period costumes, and a lot of the guests were dressed up (as were staff). Connie and I hung around for a bit, ate a few snacks for dinner and went home to prepare for a trip in the morning.
