Our Last Day and Night in South Pass City
It has been cool all day, cloudy, with intermittent rain, except for a few snow flurries and a bit of sleet in the morning.
We got up, had coffee and breakfast, and went into the office and town to retrieve a few personal items. We visited briefly with Joe, Ashley, and Curtis, the three state staff, but miss Jesse.
Connie baked a pecan pie and brought it down to the office yesterday and today we brought the last of the cheese (cheddar and pepper jack) that we had smoked for snackies or holiday events, whatever. I turned in my site key, Connie did so yesterday. We are set to leave tomorrow. The weather is not promising, but we have only a 30 mile drive into Lander, so we can get up in a leisurely fashion and take out time.
When we travel and have power, we use a small space heater to keep the trailer warm. Ours failed today, so we will use the propane furnace until we get home. The trailer alternates between too warm and too cool, but that is a minor inconvenience.
We read and worked on the computer throughout the afternoon, had dinner, and settled into a final night here in South Pass City. It has been a good summer (and fall).
I am getting ready to organize a few files to leave behind tomorrow- place holders or updates- that I will curate and forward after I get home. After that, we are done here for the year.
We will spend two days in Lander, then work our way home by way of Cheyenne, Burlington, Colorado, and Springfield, Colorado.
