A Trip to Lander and End of Season DInner

Aspens changing color. South Pass State Historic Site, Wyoming.

The aspens on the surrounding hills are starting to change color.

Monday morning! This morning started off cool, but the day warmed into the 60s as predicted. Clear skies. A really nice fall day.

We had breakfast, omelettes to use left over pico de gallo, and coffee. I drove down into Lander to pick up a few supplies, which should last through the week at last. We still have left over green chili pork stew and Joe Ellis, the site superintendent is hosting an end of season/thank you dinner tonight.

I saw 14 pronghorn antelope on the way to Lander and seven on the way back.

We had lunch after I returned, put away the groceries, and I started to smoke some hamburgers for work week lunches and, later, will smoke some corn on the cob. I bought a slab of salmon and prepared a dry brine and rubbed it on. Connie took it down to the freezer at the shop.

All the chores are done, for the most part, so I had some time to read, research, and write before this evening's dinner.

At 5:20, we headed up to Joe's house for the dinner. Lasagna, salad, and garlic bread. It was all excellent. We all sat around for a few hours talking. Glen Hester, who leads a lot of the English Tunnel tours, and his wife drove in from Lander. I always enjoy talking with him. We made plans to go out into the Red Desert with him this Saturday.

Back to the trailer, a glass of wine, and bed time.
