A Slow Friday in the Saloon
It was 45 F this morning. A bit chilly, but not as cool as yesterday (41 F). I went down to the shop and met up with Gator. We took sarsaparilla down to the Miner's Exchange Saloon and headed back for our weekly staff meeting. The meeting went about 45 minutes- nothing new, but minor updates. Last week and this week we had the meeting on the deck outside the dance hall, so I could watch birds (two night hawks) and cottontail rabbits when things were slow.
After the meeting, I went into the archives to work on various projects and, at noon, I opened the saloon. The day was slow, but went by very quickly, I only had 11 visitors today, including three who simply walked through the saloon. However, I did have a couple of lengthy conversations with visitors. I sold four bottles of sarsaparilla- it could have been 12, but the potential customer wanted to use a credit card. We don't have power at the saloon and intermittent wifi, so I can only accept cash.
I closed up the saloon at 4:00, put the leftover sarsaparilla back in the shop refrigerator and headed home. I shredded cheese for our potluck dish for tomorrow night and then grilled a couple of ears of corn and a steak.
I read a bit after dinner, then Connie went for a walk and I carried a projection screen down to the saloon for tomorrow night's movie. On the way to the saloon, I saw Joe Ellis and his new dog, Zoe, a typical puppy- boundless energy.
On the way back to the trailer, I came across Connie on the return leg of her walk.
