Lander to South Pass City

Doc Barr marker, Lander, Wyoming
I have been wanting to get a photograph of this marker, just outside of Lander, on the way to South Pass City, but kept putting it off. Anyway... Doc Barr and party rode down from South Pass City, heading to Lander, and ignored a warning from the local cavalry company about an Indian war party in the area. Well, they didn't quite make it to Lander. There is this marker and a nearby ravine named for them, Deadman's Gulch.

We tried to sleep in, but we are so used to waking at 6:00, that it was impossible. Nevertheless, we could get about leisurely, shower, get coffee, etc.

I worked for a bit and then we went down for breakfast. I had expected (hoped?) for the traditional Holiday Inn Express omelets. No joy. Carton (scrambled) eggs. Sad! I went ahead and ate some, covered with tobasco sauce, and made a go of it. We then went back up to the room to work and read for a couple of hours, and then checked out.

We went to Safeway and bought groceries and supplies for Connie's pecan pies (including a gallon of vanilla ice cream), and headed back to South Pass City.

We put things away, prepared frittatas for the weekend and I smoked a couple of chicken breasts and some corn on the cob.

A simple evening followed all of that- reading, relaxing, etc.
