Calm before the Storm
I walked down to the SPC shop this morning for our weekly staff meeting, which exclusively covered last minute details and changes to the weekend's Gold Rush Days event.
Afterwards, Gator and I ran a few errands. First we filled three large ice chests with sarsaparilla and load several additional cases into the red ranger and took them over to the Miners' Exchange Saloon for this weekend. After unloading the ice chests into the saloon, we filled a large ice chest that will sit out back as a staging area for sarsaparilla, and then placed the remaining few cases inside the saloon.
Shortly after we finished, Jan came by with her camera and asked if we had unloaded the sarsaparilla. I told her we had. She disappointedly told us that she had wanted to get a picture of Gator and I unloading the sarsaparilla. I looked at her camera and told her that she needed a faster lens if she wanted to catch us in action.
Next, Gator and I were off to the English Tunnel to drop off a torch that will be used to light candles during tours. Then on to the Carissa hoist house, from which we retrieved an AED, to place in the Smith Sherlock Company Store during this weekend's event.
After we finished that, we helped Connie wipe down several picnic tables, mostly removing accumulated dust and a few bird droppings.
Joe asked Connie and me to wipe dust off of a few signs and take the rest of the day off. Sweet!
Connie and I walked back to the trailer, relaxed a few minutes, and ate the lunches we had made. Connie wanted to make crusts for the two pecan pies she would bake later in the day, so I went down to the archives to do a little research and writing.
I went back up to the trailer a couple of hours later and we decided to go over to the Miner's Grubstake to do some reading (Connie) and writing (me) while while sharing a plate of jalapeno poppers and a couple of drinks (ice tea and beer).
We returned home, Connie baked her two pecan pies, and we had dinner. We sat outside a short while and then went inside to relax and read.
