National Museum of Military Vehicles, Dubois, Wyoming
We got up a bit early today, loaded up the truck and headed to Dubois, Wyoming, about a 100-mile drive and a little under two hours on the road. On the way up we saw quite a few pronghorn antelope including four does that had recently given birth. The fawns were really small, looking to be only - to 20- inches tall. We also saw three and then two mule deer, which seemed to want to play a game of chicken. Luckily nothing happened there, but I though one was going to make a crazy dash across the highway.
We arrived at the National Museum of Military Vehicles at about 9:30 and spent most of the day there. The museum has an incredible collection of vehicles of all times- landing craft, jeeps, tanks, trucks, half tracks, tanks, Howitzers, ambulances, motorcycles, bicycles, tanks, a Huey helicopter, and assorted vehicles that were used to tow and repair trucks and tanks in the field.
They have two tours daily. On that discusses the second World War in the morning (10:00, today) and one after lunch, about 1:00, the discusses the Korean and Viet Nam wars. The tours are really well conceived and tell the stories of these wars from the perspective of the vehicles that were used- a novel and most interesting way of presenting these wars and the men and women who served in them. The tours last about 90 to 120 minutes. After the second, I needed time to let it all sink in, so we checked in at our hotel, a Super Motel 8. On the way to the hotel, I spotted a bottle shop, so, wine...
We relaxed a bit and had dinner at the Fluffy Cow. The restaurant has no direct external entrance. So, finally, we entered a bar, walked back through it and found our way into the Fluffy. We ordered the loaded fries, which basically were nachos on french fries. We ate too much of that. Then we split a buffalo tenderloin sandwich. It was on a ciabatta, or similar, roll and was reminiscent of a Philly Cheese Steak. It was excellent! Back to the room. I read a bit and Connie took a short walk.
