Fishing Louis Lake and Smoking Fish

We got up at 6:00, our usual time, had a quick breakfast of bacon and eggs, and then we were out the door for our weekly trip to Louis Lake. Along the way we saw a few pronghorn antelope and then two mule deer on the road leading towards the lake. We arrived about 8:20 and I caught my first fish about 29 minutes later. Fishing was slow, but for most of the day, Connie or I would get a hit every so often and, periodically, we would land a fish. No big rush, but no really slow periods either. Well, at least until the last hour. We had several strikes and landed a total of 11 fish: nine rainbow trout and two splake.

There is a small inlet at the upper end of the lake where a creek enters. Around 11:00, we saw two small elk, probably yearlings, walk into the water and across the inlet. It is in this same general area that we saw a cow moose and two calves, and then a large bull moose a couple of years ago.

We headed home, relaxed a bit and I smoked three rainbow trout and a couple of ears of corn (picture above) for dinner. After dinner, Connie shelled pecans and went for a hike and I walked down to the site office and did some writing in the archives where I could spread out. We got back to the trailer about the same time. I read for a bit and Connie shelled pecans while watching a podcast.
