A Relaxing Day, with Afternoon Rains, and Remembering Scruffy
There is a SPC activity, a trek, tomorrow that we want to attend, so we decided to catch up on personal business and writing today. Connie shelled pecans most of the day.
I spent the morning on a research project I am working on and in the afternoon I caught up on some writing. Finally!
The weather today was variable. Cool, then warm. Then strong winds. Threats of rain. And then rain.
Dinner and more pecans and writing.
I was asked about Connie and the pecans earlier today. She is shelling pecans so that we (she) can make pecan pies for the Gold Rush Days bake sale. "So, fresh pecans?" I was asked. I don't know about fresh: I collected them last fall, but they are still moist and flavorful. It wasn't a good year, the crop was small, but I would go out every other evening with Scruffy to pick up fallen nuts. He had really slowed down a lot, we thought it was age, but this picking up pecans was a slow walk, about a mile all in, with plenty of time for him to sniff, pee, and rest. We soon learned he had cancer. Actually, two different cancers and now is no longer with us. The photo above is not the best, but I took it one morning as he was waiting to jump up on the chair with me- his favorite morning hangout. Scruffy traveled everywhere with us and loved SPC! He could run loose, had lots of ground squirrels to chase, and got lots of treats and belly rubs from staff and volunteers.
After dinner, I set up our projector and we watched a bit of Grumpy Old Men. I was tired and decided to go to bed before the movie ended.
